Types of Wear-Resistant Castings

Wear is a complex field, with many different types of wear. Each distinct (and combined) wear mechanism requires tailored material selection and design approaches.
Abrasive wear occurs when a hard, rough surface slides against a softer one. Typically, to minimize wear, you’ll need a harder material.
Erosive wear occurs when particles impact a worn surface. As cutting and planing operations gradually remove material, the kinetic energy of the impacting particles leads to work hardening and microcracking on the surface, ultimately resulting in delamination and flaking.
Corrosion wear – this type of wear is a combination of corrosion and mechanical abrasion. Mechanical wear can be significantly exacerbated by chemical reactions between the abrasive material and corrosive media present in the application environment. Material selection plays a crucial role in optimizing the corrosion-wear performance of components.
Shenyang Gongda offers a wide range of wear-resistant castings, including hard nickel, high-chromium cast iron, white cast iron, high-manganese steel, high-chromium steel, martensitic steel, copper alloys, and more—designed to meet the demands of industries such as quarrying, coal mining, cement production, and other heavy-duty manufacturing sectors.
